"FAMILY FARM"
...a long row to hoe
So, I'm kind of sort of showing you what we hope to turn into our farm. I say kind of sort of just because I was only brave enough to show you the cleanest and clearest areas thus far... The place is a wreck if i'm to be totally honest. And lately (being 8 months pregnant) I've let it overwhelm me to the point of a standstill. I want more than anything to make this work, but for the time being am lacking the slightest bit of "get up and go". I think its just the mess, the poison ivy, the ticks, copperheads, and heat... But I don't want to put this off forever! I cant get to the fun part until we conquer this nightmare... So for now I can only dream of building fences, greenhouses, outbuildings, docks, planting gardens, and bringing home pigs and goats...
But once Fisher is here, and I've had my chance to recover, as my mother would say;
Its "up and at 'em Adam ant!"

It's so pretty and green! I love it.
And I can't believe you are already 8 months pregnant!
Thanks Hanna! ...and I know, its passed by so fast!
You'll be fine! Don't worry about the 'weeds' since there is no such thing as weeds :)
Do you know about permaculture? It's a philosophy and way of designing.. If everything is set up right permaculture is the less work-intensive way of growing food. And the prettiest too.
The place looks wonderful, wow! I wish I could live there :) or a place like it..
In response to your very nice comment on my blog :)
I'm not an expert at permaculture either, and I'm afraid there is no wonder-solution or one design anyone can use. Since every place has different soil, weather, etc. what 'works' has to be invented.. But that can be done by observing..
See what grows well one what spot naturally.. This is easier since it is overgrown, you don't have to wait to see what happens. The goat-solution sounds great, too!
Have you seen this documentary? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixx1c3RSw_8
I loved it. And in the last part they show some permaculture food-forest-gardens.. Those just look like heaven to me.
thanks so much for sharing! it really is *beautiful* and i love the name fisher : ]
Thanks Jene! I'm glad it didn't out to be a girl cause we couldn't come up with any names we liked as much as we liked Fisher Gray for a boy :)
Dorien, Thanks! I haven't seen it, but I'll definitely check it out!
Use Round Up on the poison ivy, and leave the rest of the stuff till you are motivated to deal with it.
Oh Connie, I wish it were that easy, but our poison ivy jungle is right by the pond, and we'll be eating the fish... soooo, unfortunately round ups not really an option for us :(
